Concept

A hybrid taxi-bus service app for drivers. I designed the driver interface focusing on safety-first approach and multi-passenger route management within fixed urban transit routes.

Landing Hero

Context

Recent international studies highlight that the true benefit of ride-hailing services is helping drivers monetize their idle time through flexible, hybrid work scenarios—such as joining fixed-route, bus-like services during low-demand periods. This concept addresses that opportunity by enabling drivers to efficiently fill downtime and boost earnings within the city’s transit network.

Challenge

Design a safe, distraction-free driver interface that enables taxi drivers to easily participate in scheduled route services during low-demand periods, with clear and actionable information on passengers and route progress.

Key Constraints

  • Fixed routes with mandatory full circles
  • Limited vehicle capacity with algorithm-controlled boarding
  • Safety-first: minimal driver interaction required

Solution

Start of the route First screen — start of the route
Getting off Getting off screen
Boarding Boarding screen
New stop on the route New stop screen
Current stops Full route screen
End of the route End of the route screen

Expected Impact

Driver Experience:

  • Reduced driver distraction through single-screen interaction model
  • Improved passenger management accuracy via visual identification system
  • Streamlined route completion with progress indicators

Business Efficiency:

  • Maximized driver utilization during idle time between peak demand periods
  • Increased driver earnings by filling gaps in traditional taxi demand
  • Reduced driver downtime through structured route-based work opportunities

Concept Validation:

  • Tested core user flows with experienced drivers for safety compliance
  • Validated information hierarchy for quick scanning during driving
  • Confirmed single-handed operation capability for key interactions

Future Development Scope

This case study focuses on the core driver experience during route execution. Additional screens planned: route selection, driver onboarding, earnings dashboard, and passenger communication interface.
